Do we offer in-person and/or virtual sessions?

At the Center for Progressive Psychotherapy, we aim to make therapy as easy and accessible as possible.

CPP is glad to offer our services both in-person at our Chelsea location as well as virtual sessions depending on your preference and the clinician’s availability.

What are our hours of operation?

We understand that New Yorkers lead busy lives and therapy must work with your busy schedule!

CPP offers our services between the hours of 8 AM and 8 PM Monday thru Friday with limited Saturday availability.

How much does therapy cost?

Our therapist’s fees vary depending on years of practice, specialized training, and the type of service being provided.

These fees range from $200-$325 per session for individual treatment and $225-$350 for couples therapy.

We will work with you to minimize your out of pocket expense by using your health insurance and health saving accounts (FSAs & HSAs) to subsidize the cost of therapy.

Do you accept medical insurance?

At the Center for Progressive Psychotherapy, we think that cost shouldn’t get in the way of receiving quality psychotherapy.

We work with most PPO and some POS plans. These include Aetna, Anthem BCBS, Cigna and United Healthcare (and others). However, no two insurance plans are ever the same. Let us do the legwork for you. We recommend you reach out to our friendly support staff who can help check your benefits and let you know what your out-of-pocket costs will be. It’s important to keep in mind that this estimate is not a guarantee of reimbursem*nt.*

*Remember to confirm the estimated reimbursem*nt amount with your insurance company as they have the most up-to-date information about your benefits. Additionally, if you are going to have telehealth sessions, it is important to confirm you are eligible for telehealth services.

What types of a therapy do our clinicians offer and for whom?

Across our team of highly-trained therapists, we only offer treatments that are backed by evidence-based research and centuries of experience.

We offer both individual and couples therapy for adults over the age of 18. Family therapy is available on a case-by-case basis per the clinician’s recommendation.

Our therapists are trained in a variety of therapy modalities including, but not limited to:

  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Mindfulness
  • Exposure and Response Prevention

What is a Post-Doctoral Fellow?

A Post-Doctoral Fellow is an early career Psychologist with a doctoral degree from an accredited university. Post-doctoral fellows have chosen to undergo additional certification and advanced training here at CPP and are supervised by senior Licensed Clinical Psychologists. Because of their dedication to the pursuit of knowledge and our rigorous and competitive interview process, our Post-doctoral Fellows are energized, curious, and up-to-date on the latest research and treatment methods to provide high-quality, individualized care to those seeking their services.

What can therapy do for you?

Therapy provides a safe, objective, and non-judgmental space for you to focus on yourself and your needs – it’s your time! Therapy can help you manage symptoms of mental health difficulties such as anxiety and depression, gain deeper insight into your behaviors, address interpersonal difficulties, work through issues related to identity, process traumatic events, unpack and better understand the impact of your family history, and improve your perception of yourself, others, and the world around you. Therapy can help you feel less stuck and find the happiness and success you are longing for.

How soon can you be seen by one of our Psychologists?

We will work with you to find a Psychologist on our team whose availability can suit your schedule. Most times, clients are seen within one week.

What is our cancellation and rescheduling policy?

We request clients cancel their scheduled appointments with at least 24-hours notice by emailing their assigned therapist directly. Otherwise, clients can call our Client Relations & Operations Manager at (212) 256-1659. If you cancel your appointment with less than 24-hours notice, you will be charged a late cancellation or no-show fee. Please note that insurance benefits do not cover missed appointments, so missed appointment charges will need to be covered out-of-pocket.

What is the No Surprise Act & Good Faith Estimate?

Beginning January 1, 2022, if you’re uninsured or you pay for health care bills yourself (don’t have your claims submitted to your health plan), health care providers and facilities must provide you with an estimate of expected charges before you get an item or service. This is called a “good faith estimate.” Providers and facilities must provide you with a good faith estimate if you request one, or after you’ve scheduled an item or service. It should include expected charges for the primary item or service you’re getting, and any other items or services that are provided as part of the same scheduled experience.

The provider or facility you contact for a good faith estimate must provide a list of all items and services associated with your care. In 2022, the estimate isn’t required to include items and services provided to you by another provider or facility, but you can also ask these providers or facilities for a separate good faith estimate. In 2023, the provider or facility you contact will be required to provide co-provider or co-facility cost information.

Providers and facilities must:

  • Provide the good faith estimate before an item or service is scheduled, within certain timeframes.
  • Offer an itemized list of each item or service, grouped by the provider or facility offering care. Each item or service has to have specific details, like the health care code assigned to it and the expected charge.
  • Explain the good faith estimate to you over the phone or in-person if you request it, and then follow up with a written (paper or electronic) estimate.
  • Provide the good faith estimate in a way that’s accessible to you.
    As it pertains to therapy, all this means is that you will be informed of your self-pay per session rate and the cancellation fee.
