STANLEY R. SHELL Stanley R. Shell, 72, Rt. 1, died at Johnson City Memorial Hospital Monday afternoon. A life-long resident of Washington County, he was a son of the late Samuel and Loretta Huffine Shell.

Howard, 37, Rt. 1, Laurel Bloomery, was killed here last night when the late model car he was driving crashed into a tree. Sheriff Burl Brown said the accident occurred at 8:20 p.m.

about 10 miles north of Mountain City on State Rt. 91 near the Virginia line. State Trooper Bill Souder who investigated the accident, said Howard's 1975 model auto left the highway and struck a tree head-on. The impact apparently killed the victim instantly, he said. Howard was taken to Johnson County Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.
